An all-star programme combining music and ballet celebrates the 50th anniversary of Stravinsky’s death with an overview of the Russian-born composer’s cosmopolitan career. The tribute features some dazzling fragments from Pulcinella, re-read by Sasha Riva and Simone Repele, and some nomadic moments from L’Histoire du Soldat, choreographed and performed by Sergio Bernal, and from the American period, staged by the soloists of NYCB . The Roaring Twenties and the Ballets Russes are obviously covered, with Marco Goecke’s new choreography for Firebird; with Petrushka, re-proposed with the historical costumes by Benois, and with a rare version of Sacre by Uwe Scholz. The programme is enriched by the presence of Vladimir Derevianko as Stravinsky who guides the spectator on this journey and by the musical talent of Beatrice Rana, Simone Lamsma and Massimo Spada.
