Ravenna Festival hosts Lugocontemporanea

Valentine is the first album, in a very long list, where you can hear Bill Frisell accompanied by a “regular” jazz trio, with bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Rudy Royston. The selections on Valentine hail from a range of styles, the trio plays new and old original compositions, jazz standards, pop-covers and traditionals. A special mention needed for the version of civil rights’s hymn “We shall Overcome”, usually played by Frisell as an encore (“I played this song for years, and I’ll play it until necessary” he said). The album won the first prize in the “ Top Jazz 2020 – International Jazz ”, voted by critics and journalists of the famous “Musica Jazz” Magazine.
