The Bhagavad Gita is a sacred text that forms part of the epic poem Mahabharata. It consists of a 700-verses dialogue between prince Arjuna and his spiritual guide, the god Krishna. The context is dramatic: the dialogue takes place on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, at the onset of a devastating war between two rival factions, the Pandavas and the Kauravas. The Gita deals with serious topics such as duty, action, morality, spirituality and liberation. The war that is about to break out is a universal conflict between dharma (duty) and adharma (injustice). Arjuna is overwhelmed by doubts and emotions, and in this moment of crisis Krishna offers him his teachings about life, death and the meaning of existence.
