There’s no better way for a great singer-songwriter to prove that she’s also a great performer than to take on the greatest of all songwriters. And so, assuming that Cat Power has something to prove, a recreation of Bob Dylan’s most legendary concert – one that marked a milestone in 20th century music – is the ultimate test, and nothing less will do. Sixty years ago, with a harsh shift to electric music, Dylan’s painstaking internalisation of chords and words truly changed the world: the ‘Judas’ who had awakened a generation could now absolve himself of the responsibility of having to change it by force. This big change still resonates in present and future generations, transforming a cry for freedom into a private fact to be shared with those who can recognise the most precious gifts.
