Johan Inger’s ebullient Don Juan finally reaches Ravenna, where it was due to première last year. Now in his full artistic maturity, the Swedish choreographer unleashes a style that is an extraordinary combination of grace, invention and irony for large-group choreographies. This new collaboration with Aterballetto is here to prove it, after the splendid Golden Day striptych. This time Inger, assisted by Dramaturg Gregor Acuña-Pohl, starts from an original score by Marc Álvarez to focus on narration and draw a multifaceted portrait of the serial seducer, the man of a thousand souls described in Tirso de Molina’s original comedy and seen from a feminist perspective by Suzanne Lilar. A flamboyant meditation on the myth of Don Juan, forced to deal with the end of machismo and with gender equality.
