In Endgame, one of Samuel Beckett’s most famous plays, Hamm, Clov and Hamm’s elderly parents are forced to live in a kind of bunker because the world outside seems to have been destroyed. All suffer from various illnesses and exist in a kind of non-life, marked by unchanging rhythms and rituals, until things turn when Clov decides to leave the bunker.
Nerval Teatro has been exploring Beckett’s plays for years with disabled actors and actresses from its permanent workshops in Rosignano Marittimo and Ravenna, an area nestled between the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic seas. Now they’re trying their hand at the full play of Endgame, always with their workshop participants.
