Dante’s work is woven from many dialogues between the ancient and the modern, the dead and the living, the “drowned” and the “saved”. It asks us to dig deeper, to attempt new paths, to welcome new encounters. Thus it is possible to take a risk and follow a thin thread through the music of his image-evoking hendecasyllables and the songs that have accompanied our days. Some of Dante’s characters live in our imagination with the evidence of fact, and gain autonomy and vitality in our memory. Hence the idea underpinning Neri Marcoré’s new show: give a voice to the Comedy’s voiceless characters, namely the significant legion of women Dante meets besides the many men, an all-female anthology for a new possible dialogue.
