Richard Strauss
Symphonia domestica, Op. 53
It was in 1970 that Zubin Mehta first recorded Symphonia Domestica, revealing a lesser-known side of Richard Strauss, who, after the warlike notes of Ein Heldenleben and the apocalyptic ones of Also Sprach Zarathustra, here indulged in a private family idyll, telling an ordinary story in one of his most intimate and poetic works. Now, more than half a century later, the Honorary Life Conductor of the Orchestra of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino is clearly still very fond of this masterpiece and continues to find new ways of interpreting it. On this occasion, he has chosen to combine it with Beethoven’s only violin concerto, performed by the young violin prodigy Amira Abouzahra, who has already established herself as one of the most important talents of her generation.
